Helix // Novak or Nothing
Attention is a signal, not an assessment
Version 2026-09-06 · Engine: WebGazer in this browser · Face video is not uploaded.
What this file is
Helix estimates where gaze sat on the sample lesson. It stores an area-of-interest timeline: which block, when the estimate entered, when it left, how long it stayed. An instructor board in index.html reads those timelines.
What this file is not
- Not a grade, score, GPA input, or knowledge-test substitute.
- Not attendance, not time-on-task for pay or discipline, not an exam proctor camera.
- Not proof the reader understood, cheated, or looked away on purpose. Calibration, glasses, lighting, posture, and looking at notes all move the signal.
- Not a recording of the face. Video stays in the browser. The store keeps AOI keys and times.
Rules
- Participation is opt-in per session.
- Do not put dwell percentages on a score sheet, promotion package, or counseling chit.
- Do not require gaze as a condition of sitting a test.
- Treat thin dwell as a prompt to reteach or ask a question.
- The same rule in CIWT LMS lives at
/policy/attention.
